The way I create this type of interconnecting structures is to suggest an idea and then execute it on computer. I rarely have a complete visualisation of what the outcome would look like.
Most of the stuffs I created here are the result of trial on simple initial ideas, which might lead to some complex structure.
This interconnecting crates was the result of such mental exercise.
